There's another possible chance of a cow being infected with MCD, even though the animal in question was never in distribution.
Do you think this is the beginning of a problem with diseased meat (Mad Cow Disease can incubate for up to 20 years before showing symptoms), or do you think this disease will be contained? Remember, this disease isn't caused by a virus or bacteria.

At first I thought it was going to be a thread about Helen, but I see it really was about cowfarm.

kraft, I think we're going to be seeing random stories like this. The American public has a short memory, and each new story will cause some momentary panic, soon forgotten about. Most people probably think we're all protected from this now, but the FDA has not implemented it's planned ban of spinal cords, blood and brains from feed for cattle, pigs, horses and other animals. This was supposed to have taken effect in January. They now say it may be 2006 before it happens.
The commodity price of market beef went down yesterday. Safeway's having a sale on bone-in beef short ribs. M-M-M-M-M!!!!

Good point. This has been the problem for years. One does not feed meat byproducts to bovines.
Its pretty bad when the feed producers do not even have to put what mix they use in their feed on any label.

Yeah, I thought it was gonna be about one of the liberal weenie dames, too. Shucks.
As I've posted before, we've got a real problem with the supplements fed to the herds we consume. The powers that be claim that heavy metal accumulation due to feeding animal by-products and wastes to the herds are to blame. IMHO, that is wrong. There is a genius from England that makes a very good case that BSE (mad cow disease) is caused by herd exposure to Organo-phosphates.
My training in microwave technology and dabbling in the study of feeding chicken waste to dairy herds has me agreeing with Professor Purdy. Any type of ecological imbalance causes uptake and physiological disruptions. High power lines can cause cancer. The local school district says they don't, but we have part of a school here in Fresno that has been abandoned because it is too close to high power lines (they run through an active neighborhood). Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, and Scrapies in sheep are all related. So, got a relative with Alzheimers or senile dementia? What has their exposure to pesticides been? Did they ever have a cholinesterase base-line reading taken to measure any upswings?
And you thought allergy to modern society was a joke? If you're allergic to it you have a smart body.
