hi all, I have a comment and a question. I have been online for 5 years and for 4 of them used AOL with no problems. CHanged to msn as a service provider (3 years access + free computer deal, well ya get what you pay for I guess) and I was horrified at just how bad this system seems to be. With AOL I rarely had error messages or failures to connect or disconnections....with MSN it was happening all the time, disconnections 10 times a day (I work online) no matter which dialup number I used, page not found/error messages dozens of times a day (even though I knew it was there). Ability to receive mail maybe 1 time out of 5 tries. Is this common to MSN IE and to MSN Outlook Express? How could a system so awful be used by so many people? I noticed that my computer came with Netscape Communicator so I installed it and I'm overjoyed with the smoothness of the page changes and the lack of error messages. Hasn't disconnected once after 5 hours of use (With IE I would have been disconnected at least 3 times by now). My question is, when I look at my own web page, I don't see anything in Netscape!! What can I do? It's on a free server and the free server's ads show up at the top of the page, and also my backgrounds, but no text or picture or borders or anything! Yikes! Any advice?

Also, my msn mail won't come up on the Netscape mail thingie. It says error sending member information to server---should I call Netscape or MSN?

And why is MSN sending me these annoying Popups every 10 minutes?

Please indulge me, this is all very new.

Kim

Your problems could be the result of a combination of things, not necessarily something inherently flawed in either browser on its own. Sometimes when people have problems with a browser they download it again in case the one they have on their computer was corrupted somehow. Have you contacted msn about your problems? That would be the first step if you haven't taken it.

I've heard of people having problems with msn as an internet provider, but since I don't have it I can't say. On accessing your msn mail, contact both your ISP and Netscape. (Likely msn will say they don't support Netscape and that using Netscape is the problem.) Are you sure you've set up Netscape Communicator (email thingy) properly to receive mail from the msn servers?

RE: your webpage: I understand Netscape is less forgiving for HTML composition than IE so pages constructed using IE may not show up as well (or with things missing) when viewed through Netscape. That might be the problem when viewing your web page, if you composed it in IE.

Perhaps someone may come along and be able to be more helpful. Good Luck.

Netscape won't be able to get your MSN mail, I'm pretty sure they use two different types of mail. I was under the impression that MSN was using Hotmail for their email. Go to www.msn.com and check out their Tour for new users. You can probably find help there. I believe you need to go to their "Message Center" for help with your email.

You should be able to shut off the pop ups somewhere in your User Options or Preferences.

You web page not showing correctly on Netscape is because Netscape is much more unforgiving on errors in HTML. Always check web pages or auction HTML in both browsers so you know the code is working correctly for your viewers.

As to your web page not showing up in Netscape, 9 times out of 10 it's because there's a table that hasn't been closed. Try adding a </table> just before the </body> tag.

another update: I went to MSN member help interactive to ask if there was any way I could access my MSN mail through netscape and they refused to talk about it...said that "they regret they are unable to help me" about 3 times. Sheesh!

Where do people go for help when the helpers turn them down?

There must be someplace to ask the elementary questions---?

You have to realize that Netscape and Microsoft are in direct competition. The best thing to do would be to either decide which browser you wish to use, and then use that browser's email program. Hotmail could be used from either browser since it is totally web based, but it is not always dependable.

If MSN is going to be your internet provider, then find out how to use their email. I do know that MSN is going to switch their email over to Hotmail, if they haven't done it already. MSN is in the process of going through more changes, and email will only be one of many things that will suffer from these changes.

Here is an url explaining the changes coming to users of MSN version 2:

If you have a local isp that is the best way to go. Your email will be through them and Netscape will work great. You won't have the email problems that way.

It seems a lot of people think they have to go through MSN or AOL to be on-line but that just isn't the case. (Not that you thought that, , I am just speaking in general.)

All you need is a dial-up number, perferably a free one, and then you can use any browser you want to.
