I'm wary of qualifying the question I've got for everyone. It doesn't directly concern the topics which have recently been deemed inapporpriate for threads here. It does not insult anyone, be they poster or AW staff member. (moderator: If it is _still_ deemed inappropriate, please let me know why and also how it would be possible to rephrase the question in an acceptable manner.) But because I have been known to throw a rock or two in various directions, I'm afraid it will be perceived as sarcastic. It isn't. It seems to be of genuine concern to some folks, myself among them.

OK, here's the question:
Due to recent changes in policy, e-mail communication between members and staff has taken on a much larger role than it has up to now... so, what's your experience been when it comes to receiving a reply from AW staff when you send email?

My experience: three sent, no replies.

I have emailed the moderators twice.

Once when I won an Auction Watch T-Shirt (which I still wear)...... the reply came quickly.

Second time was when a poster with two ID's started a thread and then posted a supportive response (under the second ID) to the topic of the thread. BTW, it was easy to figure out, the User Profile gave it away. I got a response in minutes from the Moderator on duty.

Oh nonsense!

All of them respond with great speed; sometimes one email to the generalized moderator addresss elicits so many responses from all of them at once that the result for me is an overlooaded and crashed browser!

I've even had to request that they establish amongst themselves an orderly and consistant procedure by which each answer is sent only after an elapse of a set number of seconds after receipt of mine in order to aleviate the problem described above.

This procedure was not easy to put in place because there was a real need on the part of each of them to have the honor of being the first to repond in order to remain in my good graces.

If anything, though I am continually amazed at their enthusiasm, I would have to honestly say that at times they each have been overly helpful, and I have been forced to cause them to realize that such efforts were sometimes discomfitting to me.

This was before I became a member. I was impressed with the responses and joined. I haven't emailed since then.

Oh Good Grief KRS get real! You are a favorite son around here. Of course they respond to your emails.

And for the record, three of the emails that went unanswered were emails to Diane.

I had a problem with my account and the moderators replied
quickly and were very helpful.

It's aganist my scruples to complain about other users or moderation calls. So, I will not be sending any for that reason.

But, I am concerned that there will be pressure from my good enemies to have me zapped.

I hope, for everyone's benefit, that this new email pressure will not affect the good discretion that has been used in the past.

In my approx 2 1/2 years on AW, I have probably emailed them 4-5 times. I have always received a quick courteous reply.

Gaffan - Since you have/had your own board, how would you feel if others were coming there (I know they can't unless they're invited) to criticize how you handle your board, to throw insults at you, your workers (if you had any)?

AW has made a decision to handle it this way. We all can decide if we don't like the changes to leave. Or if we're happy here to remain. Is all this going to change anything?

Why the antagonism? I'm making an inquiry as to the experiences people have had with respect to email interactions with AW, which seems relevent since they now intend to handle functions which were previously dealt with openly and and public with a far more restrictive method which it seems will retard understanding of current moderator interpretations of the CGs. I think it's a fair question, and from the fact that this thread is not locked, apparently they do as well. Is it necessary to become indignant and petulant on their behalf? It's been my experience that they're perfectly capable of defending themselves without your acrimonious assistance.

And as the topic of this thread involves AW and not "my" board, I'll thank you to please try to keep your posts in this thread on topic. Lots of people manage to do this on a regular basis.

Gaffan - I stayed on topic by answering your question. If you took my words the way you did, it's because you chose to.

If the moderators here choose to moderate me I will accept that, but you have no right to tell me what to post or not.

You're right KatyD, thank you. Just gets so old being told what I can say or what I shouldn't be saying. When you agree with someone, all is well. When you disagree then you're not staying on topic, even if you have addressed the topic. Okay for some and not others?

I'll say goodnight.

Yawn. The usual tag-team.
It seems a bit internally contradictory to make a post implying that this thread shouldn't be here, then make a post where you state that you're tired of having people tell you what to say. Just an observation. And "internally contradictory" wasn't my first choice.

Just in passing, I note that in your first post you accuse me of throwing insults. I haven't, you're wrong, and if I'd directed that comment at you I'd probably have been moderated.

With respect to answering my question, the Gettysburg Address can be considered an answer to the question "How much is 2+2?" by those lights. After all, is starts off with "Four". But there's a lot of completely extraneous information (vis 2+2) as well.

Thanks for your response to the initial question. I trust that if you have anything else to discuss you will start another thread.

Or, she can post to this one, if she feels like it. That's the thing about these threads. Anyone can post to them. I trust you weren't claiming thread "exclusivity". It doesn't work that way here. But you know that, don't you?

My experience of emailing mods was that they didn't seem to know who should respond, and didn't have a system of forwarding emails for response to the head-mod, and it takes over a day to get a response, if at all.

Even when you do get an email back, it never answers your questions, and if you persist you get an email telling you they aren't going to respond anymore. I still don't know why I wasn't "warned", or how a warning for a post that was later reinstated counts as a "warning" or what I did that was so "disruptive" to warrant suspension, except that I was critical of AW (unless any criticism now counts as "disruption".

I even had to email to request re-instatement twice at the end of my suspension period, before I could be re-instated.
I've given up on expecting rationality or accountability.

My advice... don't bother. Email the advertisers instead and complain about the lack of accountability.

Back to fluff....

mivona,

You emailed several times, in an extremely confrontational and demanding manner. Most of your emails were answered within 24 hours.

You were suspended for exactly the type of post that you just made. We reduced your suspension to 15 days, and you've come back to immediately post in the same way.

For this reason, we are permanently suspending your posting privileges. You are no longer welcome on our message boards.

Regards,

Diana
