Starting to get quite a nice list of new sellers and items. I have decided to do all my online Christmas shopping there, just because I like the site so much. I hope this post isn't considered promotional. With so many negative goings on on some of the other sites, I just feel really good about this one and will do everything I can to support it, including doing my Christmas shopping there. I am not a seller there, as yet, just a buyer, but I sure like what I see over there.

Hi:
It's always pleasant to hear good things about a given site. I discovered Carnaby by lurking here at AW. I only have a few listing, but hope to have more soon. Perhaps we'll run into each other there.

I usually never buy anything on auction sites, but I did make a few impulse buys on Carnaby. Was busy listing on Carnaby and checking out the competition when I found some real nice things at great prices. Had no choice but to buy! Even though Carnaby is slow it's already outsold ePier and Bidville for me. Hoping for better things ahead if they'll start to advertise.

Many auction sites have suffered a bit of a slowdown ever since Spetember 11th... or at least a change in listings/purchases. Carnaby seems to be holding up well in comparison. Nice site, and I suggest that folks look it over and compare it to other sites.

I still think that there are too durn many "general auction sites" out there... can understand a large number of "specialty" sites but just look at the number of sites in this list:

I like Carnaby, too. Just wish there were more sellers there. What I cant understand is so many sellers crab and complain on the boards here about ebay yet they wont move even a little bit of their stuff onto another site. I've bought some stuff on Carnaby already and hope they get lots more stuff listed before Christmas.

Lots of items from me (a Seller) will be listed on Carnaby tomorrow and the upcoming days...just don't expect something for nothing is all...I am not a Charity after all!....lol! The prices will be fair!
I also have several friends that will be listing too...so check it out in a week or so OK?

I have noticed that carnaby doesnt have a lot of traffic, but I really think that will change. Carnaby has all the makings for a great site! I have at least 100 listings at a time there, and really think things will pick up. All sites had to start slow ya know!

This is a nice thread, nice and positive

I see that Carnaby is having problems with its auction totals or bulk lister or both. In the Collectibles category there are 9,000+ items listed but there are not very many items listed there. The Antiques .. Fine Arts section has 6,401 items listed but the are all in the "Prints" section ( except 1 item ).
The site seems to have several computer glitches to work out.

You are certainly "on top" of things, minute by minute!

Yes there are a few problems, and if you will go to the boards you will see that the glitches are being corrected at this moment thanks to the best customer support on the net.

Now, don't go reporting any of those figures.....they could turn out to be wrong and your credibility would suffer.

Overall it is a nice site, but needs buyers as any site. I feel it will be a long time before anyone could expect to make a living from listing there. I listed nearly 200 items there and got three bids (the same bidder) in about a two week period. I may try there again, but not at the low starting bids I set before.
Just my opinion, but none of the smaller sites are what I would consider auction sites. If you get more than one bid on an item it is a rare occurance. These sites are more like Retail sites or Storefronts, (I don't see why they even bother stating auctions) therefore prices would need to be set accordingly.
Again, just my opinion!

It's Carnaby's credibility that suffers. Maybe a rename to Glitchville or GimickCity would be better.

bidsbids,

The management team has discussed your suggestions, but we decided to stick with the name "Carnaby" after all.

We thank you for your "support".

(and no, we did not borrow that from 'Bartles & James')

Carnaby Support: What can I say. "Youse guys got class!!!!"

I'm having a blast on your site and am happy to see that you are hard at work fixing the glitches, Max gets a bit unruly at times, but you sure rein him in pretty fast when he get's himself too cranked. His last trick was a real gooder - boosted the listings sky high in one fell swoop so he did! But I'm glad you are taking time to properly test Max and fix these things before you go gung ho on advertising the site. (Yes, this statement from an impatient snowbird who is constantly biting your ankles to get on with your advertising campaign.)

And I'm certainly getting ready to party big time when ol' Bidsbids finally decides to come on board! YeeHaw!

Now carnaby,

GimickCity doesn't sound that bad! Kind of catchy in a way. Got to agree - it would get some lookers, just to see what is there. I kind of like gimicks - thigamajigs - dodads and those sort of things.

Don't know the correct spellings for above items. Now how do I list them in auctions?

Lordy, lordy - wasn't that a party this morning! Didn't last too long, though!

Opals: I like your suggestion. GimmickCity has a nice ring to it. Or how about GimmeCity?

As for you listing, just do them one at a time, man. I, for one, am always in the market for thingamajigs and doodads, especially blue ones!

Perhaps bidsbids will stir up enough free advertising for Carnaby that they won't have to spend a penny.

Good strategy bidsbids, keep up the good work!

Opals,

I'm laughing here at your post. Yep, gimme, gimme, gimme more gimicks, I love to play too!

Personally, I haven't found ANY auction site that can afford me a salary that will do more than feed the cat!

But, it's fun trying!

Hee Hee you guys are funny...but wasn't that nifty that at least Carnaby spoke to us...I am not worthy!!!.....dooh Dah!
Maybe I better get over there and start listing! Just can't seem to get going lately!!!
But it is a classy layout.....worth a try I guess!!

Here's a free suggestion. Try advertising Carnaby in publications that Amyway users read. The 'Refer A Friend' pyramid fooled them once so it's worth a shot.

Let's see now. I have asked you twice now to explain to me how the refer a friend program works. You have not.

Free advice! Disqualified.

It's back to the other boards to see what damage can be done there!

Good luck

Okay, it's The Winner's Circle Program and believe me this is not promotional, but rather a lesson in not how to setup an online auction.

bidsbids,

Now since you apparently are an expert on how to set up an online auction - How about some suggestions, rather than continuious complaints about nearly every site.

Give us a layout of the perfect online auction site. I would like to see you come up with one that noboby can find a complaint with.

Go to it!

Now we are getting somewhere. Except that, I asked for YOUR explanation of how the programs work, not that you post the link to the program.

Your opinion of a program never seems to include facts which are in fact, facts!

Therefore, I would like to hear YOUR version.

If you want to be a respected reporter, you must present facts, otherwise, you lose credibility, thus a following.

As it stands now, we are all aware that you do not care for this program; you do not care for the cash cow program; you do not seem to care for anything on any "other" site. That's great and you are certainly entitled to your opinions. Yet, you sell on them? Go figure!

Now for the next question I posed which is STILL unanswered. What are your motives for continually degrading "other sites"?

In my opinion, and judging by the responses that your posts receive, the manner in which you go about your sport is not earning you any respect. A job at a fast food establishment might prove to be a better choice.

I'm anxiously awaiting your version of the perfect on-line auction site. Who knows, maybe a financial backer will come along and offer you a deal.

I'll leave you two with your wonderful Carnageby. The site that has millions of dollars for advertising available but is waiting for a sufficient number of auctions to justify the expeditures. Gonna be a long wait folks.

But bidsbids!! You are the expert!!

I want to know what is the perfect site and if you can show me one that NOBODY has any complaints about - that is certainly where I want to list.

Now can you do this or not? - if not then I would suggest that you not drag other sites down until you can find what everyone so much wants. "THE PERFECT SITE"

My hearing about what is bad with this one or that one is of ABSOLUTELY NO HELP to me. Are you here posting to help, or to just get people upset. The later appears to be your intent to me.

bidsbids,

You could be right. You could be wrong.
Speculation isn't worth a "hill of beans", to quote a very famous person!

Surely you could be so kind as to grant us our "wishful thinking" couldn't you? If our wish does not come true, I believe we can handle the disappointment.

We're grownups!

I've been lurking here on the Other Online Auctions forum and decided to check out the Carnaby Auction site. I decided to browse and the first category is Antiques, which I collect anyway. There are 784 items so I was pleased to see that many listings. It appears all but 4 of the items in the main Antique category are in the Prints subcategory. When I went to that subcategory I saw that the items all possibly belonged to just one seller and there were about 10 each of the same auctions, over and over again. I don't think that is a Kosher way to run an auction site and it almost seems like an attempt to inflate auction totals. Needless to say I logged out after seeing their first category.
