Dear PayPal Member,

You already know how convenient PayPal makes it to receive money online. Now, PayPal has created two new ways to receive payments from your website -- the PayPal Shopping Cart and our Subscriptions feature.

PayPal Shopping Cart

PayPal's Shopping Cart allows buyers to purchase multiple items from you with just a single payment, and it's easy to set up. You don't have to be an HTML guru to get the PayPal Shopping Cart up and running on your website. And this feature works with all website-hosting providers -- you can even use it with free website-hosting services.

The PayPal Shopping Cart provides your buyers with a high quality user experience that can result in increased sales. As buyers click Shopping Cart buttons, the items they select are added to a PayPal pop-up window that they can use to "check out" at any time. You can even customize your buyers' experience by having your website's logo displayed on PayPal's payment pages for your buyers to view, as well as directing them to the URL of your choice after payment is completed.

Best of all, PayPal's Shopping Cart is free -- there are no set-up fees, just the same low rates as on all other PayPal payments. Visit www.okiekettlecorn.com to see how a PayPal Shops merchant has integrated the Shopping Cart on her website.

Subscriptions

PayPal Subscriptions lets you accept recurring payments for your service. With Subscriptions, you have the freedom to choose the length of each billing cycle. You can even provide your visitors up to 2 free or discounted trial periods! And, like the Shopping Cart, Subscriptions allows you to personalize PayPal's payment pages with your logo and a return URL of your choice, and there's no set-up fee.

Be sure to give your website an edge -- login to your account and click on the Sell tab to learn more about using PayPal's Shopping Cart and Subscriptions features on your website today!

Sincerely,

The PayPal Team

I've tested the shopping cart twice now, a couple of weeks between tests. It does not perform as described and is confusing for users. Here's what I found:

1. The order form includes shipping and handling in the item total. It looks like the cart can't do basic math. For each item, the cart should show (Qty times price each) in the Price column, add the Prices to get the Subtotal, and then add the other items (shipping, etc).

2. The order form has an Insurance line, but there's no provision for adding insurance to the button/item.

3. On an order with two different items (not two of the same item), the handling charge was added twice, despite the help file's claim "Handling: Handling will be calculated once per order as a flat fee. If you enter a
Handling of $1 and your buyer purchases 5 items, the total handling will remain $1. All costs that increase with quantity should be entered in the "Extra Shipping" field."

4. My logo doesn't display on https://www.paypal.com/cart/checkout=1 despite displaying properly in the cart.

5. When I went back (Back button/option) to the cart from the checkout window, the cart added another instance of the last item I selected. Tried it again. Now there're 3 blue potholders, not the 1 I originally specified.

6. The checkout math is absolutely wrong. The Amount is miscalculated, including only the per item prices instead of being the grand total.

So far, PayPal hasn't answered my direct question about when these problems will be fixed.

If anyone has any work-arounds or third-party cards that work with PayPal, I'd like to hear about them. Thanks in advance!
